Why sharing filters is so cool
You are working on your own computer – doing a presentation, some analysis, reporting.
You want to share your work / findings with a colleague, for them to see, on their computer.
The old way is data exports, screen grabs, data transformations, version control issues, and risk of your private data being intercepted.
Option one: simply share your work, and your colleague will see what you see. (And it’s secure, because it’s behind their login, and subject to your company’s access permissions)
Sharing filters – the how
This is actually very easy.
Have you ever forwarded an article on the web? You may have forwarded the unique web address (or URL) of that article?
Same principle here. Unique actions you do on Gmaven create a unique address.
So with a few button clicks, you can share your work with your colleagues.
How – the detail?
Example 1 – very easy
First step is the easy one of sharing a property or unit or deal.
- Go to any one of your data assets.
- Click on the URL, ensuring the whole address is highlighted
- Copy it
- Paste in a mail
- Press send
For tech beginners
- How to copy: Ctrl+c for Windows, or Command (or Cmd) ⌘ + C for Apple, or right click and use your mouse
- How to paste: As above, except Ctrl+v or Command (or Cmd) ⌘ + v
Example 2 – slightly more complex
Here you are sharing some data filtering you have done. (To see how to filter, please see the button below)
- From any data filter you make (lease deals, properties, units)
- Click on the URL, ensuring the whole address is highlighted
- Copy it
- Paste in a mail
- Press send
Out of interest, here is the actual filter / URL being shared:
How to filter your data assets?
If you’ve used any shopping website or filter in Excel before, this is easy:
Pro tip – hyperlinks
Some of these links can get quite long. Here is a leasing deal link for this specific lease deal filter:
The URL behind the filter:
(If you opened it (in the link here) your side, you would see this filter, but applied to your data)
How do you make it more space-efficient in your email?
Dead easy. You want to insert a hyperlink.
Click on the word or words in the text (link here, please see the latest deal tracking for XYZ etc.)
Ctrl+k for Windows, or right click and use your mouse.
Paste in as per normal (Ctrl+v or Command (or Cmd) ⌘ + v, or mouse)
Here (for Windows), and here for Mac, as an example, is a link explaining how this works in more detail.
