How to add property co-ordinates
The “before photo”
The automated option
Use option (A) above. After entering your street address and suburb info, click “”GENERATE COORDINATES”. Where the Google API doesn’t return results – see example below:
… you have two choices. You can either try again, after updating your suburb or street address information. Or you can move to the alternatives laid out below – (B) in the picture above.
The quick manual approach (add direct)
Add the property co-ordinates (in decimal degrees format) by clicking on (1) below, and adding the data in the popup in (2).
Remember to add co-ordinates in decimal degrees format (not any of these other formats: degrees, minutes, and seconds (DMS), nor Degrees and decimal minutes (DMM)
How to get a property’s co ordinates or lat long?
- Go to Google Maps
- Search on the property’s name or address
- Right click on the property on the map (Please see step (1) below)
- Copy the property’s co ordinates (Please see step (2) below)
- Paste the lat and long values into the fields in Gmaven
Insight: If you get an unusual result on the map, first check that the latitude is going into the latitude field, and the longitude is going into the longitude field. (These values can sometimes be switched around)
The longer manual approach / edit pen
“Seed” the property co-ordinates (in decimal degrees format), then use the edit pen.

- South Africa (Johannesburg: -26, 28; Cape Town: -34, 18.5; Durban: -29.8, 31)
- Nigeria (Lagos: 6.5, 3.3)
- Kenya (Nairobi: -1.3, 36.8)
- England (London: 51.5, -0.1)
- USA (New York: 40.75, -74, San Francisco: 37.75, -122.4)
** Click on the edit mode (1), then drag and drop to the desired location (2)

Pro tip
If you would like to change the type of map you / your company sees, you can do so under your team-wide Settings –> System settings –> Default CRE map type
